  1. Launching the Dashboard

    • 1

If Avira is already running on your computer, double-click the Avira icon on your status bar on the lower right corner of your screen. If Avira is not running, click "Start", "All Programs", find the appropriate Avira program and click to launch it.

    • 2

On the left side of the Avira screen, locate the "Administration" button and click it one time.

    • 3

You should now see a dropdown menu underneath the Administration button. Your choices are Quarantine and Scheduler. Click one time on Scheduler.

    • 4

You will see five icons in the upper-left corner above the first column. Click one time on the first icon, "Insert a new job".

    Creating a New Job

    • 1

A new box will open asking you to give a name and description to your job. Click in the "Name" box and name your new job "Daily Definition Update". Now click in the "Description" box and enter "Automatic daily definition updates." Click the "Next" button one time.

    • 2

In the next box that appears, click the arrow to the right of the dropdown menu. Click one time on "update job". Click the "Next" button.

    • 3

In the next box that appears, click the arrow to the right of the dropdown box. You will have several selections: immediately, daily, weekly, interval and single.

Immediately will kick-off a one-time update as soon as you complete the steps to set it up.

Selecting "Daily" will setup an update to occur once a day. As soon as you select this option, a new box will appear below the dropdown box. You will set the time in this box that you want the updates to occur every day. Note that Avira uses military time, so 5:00 pm would read as 17:00.

The weekly option will set up an automatic update one time per week on the day and at the time that you choose. As soon as you select this option, two new boxes will appear where you will set the day of the week and the time that you would like the updates to happen.

The Interval option is best used if you want to update more than one time per day or less than once per week. When you select this option, a new box will appear where you can set the interval between updates however many days, hours and minutes apart you would like. If you would like to update one time per month, set the box to 30 days between updates.

Single allows you to schedule a one-time update that does not happen immediately. When you select this option, a new box will appear where you can set the day and time you would like the update to happen.

Click on one the option you choose, set the date and time if required, and then click the "Next" button.

    • 4

The next screen that appears allows you to set how you would like the update to run.

"Invisible" means that it will happen in the background. No windows will pop up.

"Minimized" will open a window, but minimize it to an icon on your status bar.

"Maximized" will open a full window where you can monitor the updates.

Select one and click the "Finish" button.

    • 5

You are now returned to the Scheduler window. Your job will appear as a line item. Be sure that the "Activated" box to the right of the new job is checked.

Your update configurations are now set. From the menu, click "File"-->"Exit" to close Avira AntiVir.

Tips & Warnings

  • To keep your virus software up-to-date, update your virus definitions at least once every week.

  • Although the update process is very short, it can slow your computer down while the update is taking place. Try to schedule your updates when you are normally away from your computer. Avira needs a live Internet connection to update, so do not schedule an update for the middle of the night unless your computer will be left on.
